So whose behind dot and herbie?

Robbie and Nick are two great mates. After working together in Melbourne for many years the friendship continued well after Nick left the company for a two year travel adventure overseas. Robbie left Melbourne to move back to the Byron Shire with his lovely fiance (now wife!) Lauren for the birth of their first child, the baby and the little legend “The Mighty Quinn”.

The idea for “Dot and Herbie” was conceived over a couple of quiet drinks at Robbie’s place while Nick was visiting from Melbourne. Realising the potential and the excitement the idea had evoked in them, the wheels quickly began in motion and the business was refined and agreed upon very soon after. Now almost twelve months on, the boys a raring to go with a stunning and beautiful custom built 1950’s vintage caravan bar that is sure to add a touch of classic vintage charm to any event!

Our team

We're a small, friendly and outgoing team. We love weddings, markets, festivals and all things vintage! We also love to be social and pride ourselves on making your event even more relaxed and special.

And why the name?

Dot and Herbie is named after Nick’s beloved grandparents - Dorothy and Herbert Johnson, who had a love of classic cars and caravans. It is with great pride that we can continue their legacy through the business, and is a lovely reminder of what comes first in life - family and friends.

The caravan itself is named “Thelma May” after Robbie’s treasured next door neighbor and essentially third grandmother!

Experience you say?

Both Robbie and Nick have extensive bar and hospitality experience (over 15 years between them). From cafes and restaurants to catering and bars, the boys have done it all several times over, so you can rest assured you’re in very good hands.

Robbie started his first ever job as a barista and bar-tender for several years in Brisbane. Working in multiple cafe and bar locations he has learned a great deal about the hospitality industry and its nuances.

Nick worked as a waiter, kitchen-hand and bar-tender for many years in the thriving Melbourne hospitality industry. He has run a mobile catering company for the past three years, trading at Victoria’s premier music festivals and major events.

All staff working for Dot and Herbie are highly skilled and experienced, with credentials that meet the mandatory Responsible Service Of Alcohol (RSA) qualification.
